All of them except the last two on this list will launch on Jan. Instead of organizing them by network (TLC, ID) they’re organized by subject (“Love and Relationships,” “True Crime”). There are also several one-off documentaries and specials-and a bunch of shows that preview Discovery Communications’ new cable channel, Chip and Joanna Gaines’ forthcoming Magnolia Network. Some of them are full, new series, while others are thin, repackaged versions of old shows, such as Amy Schumer Learns to Cook: Uncensored and House Hunters: Comedians on Couches Unfiltered.

As the Wall Street Journal reported, the plan was “to slice and package Discovery’s various offerings into niche streaming plans” but “Discovery made the decision to offer a comprehensive streaming service after the company surveyed consumers and found that they wanted a one-stop nonfiction streaming destination to complement the fiction-heavy Netflix and Disney+”. Interestingly, Discovery was going to launch individual streaming services, not one big one.

It will have an impressive library of reality TV shows: The company said in a press release that it “will offer more than 55,000 episodes all in one place, with over 2,500 current and classic shows from Discovery’s iconic portfolio of networks, including HGTV, Food Network, TLC, ID, OWN, Travel Channel, Discovery Channel and Animal Planet.” Discovery+ will cost $5 a month with advertising, or $7 a month without ads. The new streaming service is called Discovery+, and in case you were cynically thinking that its name demonstrates a lack of creativity because it just copied Disney+ and Apple TV+-which were among the least-creative names ever-its logo has a lower-case D. 4, 2021, with 55,000 episodes of reality TV shows from 2,500 HGTV, Food Network, ID, and TLC programs-plus more than 30 reality shows that won’t be on cable, like Joe Kenda and Mike Rowe’s new series, a spin-off of Chopped, and four new 90 Day Fiance shows.
